Hypnosis, or trance state, is a natural and normal state of mind. We all experience trance states regularly. Some common examples are getting lost in a good book, being absorbed in a movie, or "zoning out" while you drive on your commute home. We also enter and exit trance state each night when we fall asleep and each morning when we wake up.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is an educational and self-improvement process that facilitates access to a person's internal resources to assist them in solving problems, increasing motivation, or altering behavior patterns to create positive change. Hypnotherapy uses specialized techniques to induce a natural altered state of mind (hypnosis/trance) characterized by deep relaxation and mental clarity in order to help the client redirect and reprogram their subconscious mind to aide in healing, health, performance, and many other desired outcomes. Hypnotherapy's goal is to free you from fear-based programming and assumed limitations.
Will I do or say something I don't choose to do or say?
This is a common myth associated with hypnosis and it is absolutely untrue. The hypnotic state is a voluntary activity entered into together by the client and the hypnotherapist. We will focus only on client-directed goals so you are always within your own control and can share or withhold whatever you choose. Katherine will ensure clients clearly understand the hypnotic process prior to beginning any hypnosis work. Her aim is for clients to feel completely comfortable with what hypnosis is, how it will affect them, and what to expect during a session and afterwards.
What are some other common myths?
You can be controlled and divulge secrets.
You will do anything in hypnosis, including things that violate your personal moral code.
Quite the opposite. The hypnotic state is one of very deep mental, emotional, and physical relaxation. It is akin to meditation. Most clients report feeling exceptionally peaceful and calm during their sessions, and that these pleasant feelings typically extend for hours, or even days, afterwards.
Will I need to continue Hypnotherapy indefinitely?
No. One of the great things about Hypnotherapy is that most clients experience three or less sessions before attaining their desired results. Hypnotherapy is a powerful self-help technique that will be taught to you for your use outside of sessions with the Hypnotherapist so you can continue healing and growth on your own. Hypnotherapy is about empowering the client to heal themselves.
Yeah, but is it real?
Hypnosis is very real and is one of the oldest forms of medicine dating back 40,000 years. It has been used all over the world throughout human history for healing, guidance, and social cohesion. In 2017, hypnosis outperformed pharmacology in a clinical trial completed by the University of New Mexico, funded by the National In stitute of Health (NIH) exploring Overactive Bladder Syndrome (OAB), a very common ailment that 17% of women in the US experience. In this study, Integral Hypnotherapy TM had a 93% success rate in eliminating OAB symptoms. It outperformed the compared drug therapy which had a 60 to 80% success rate. This research shows us that hypnotherapy can be a great substitute to pharmacological treatments. Katherine would be happy to share many stories about successful hypnosis treatment with you during your initial discovery session. Please reach out for more information.
